Pensacola Professional Landscaping Company How to Move with Your Plants

Moving all your belongings from one house to another is stressful enough without having to worry about how to move living décor. When it comes to moving your indoor plants, these tips from a Pensacola professional landscaping company can help take out some of the stress.

Keep Them Stable
When moving your plants, it is important to always make sure that the pot is stable and secure. At the same time, always try to keep the plant as upright as possible. You’ll want to avoid letting the foliage come into contact with surrounding objects.

One way to satisfy each of these requirements is to find a tote to set your plants in. This is not a must, but it can certainly help. If you go this route, make sure the tote is sturdy enough to hold the plants in an upright position. If needed, use some packing paper or bubble wrap to fill the spaces between the plant and the walls of the tote.

Plant Too Tall; Car Too Small
Of course, if you do not keep your plants upright, the soil will spill out. However, if you have too big of a plant for your car, you will need to place the plant in a slanted position. The best way to do this is to wrap a garbage bag around the whole pot – tightly – and even make it touch the trunk of the plant if you can. This will help seal off the pot and keep the soil inside of it when the plant must tip. Also, when the plant is in the car, though it is tipped, refrain from letting it rest completely on its foliage. Utilize packing paper and bubble wrap if you need to in order to relieve some pressure off the foliage.

Weather Concerns
Here are some things to realize since your plant will inevitably spend a little time outside during the move.
  • Avoid letting the plant be in direct sun, but if they must, make sure you cover them up. There is a big difference between direct sun and soaking in the sun through a glass window.
  • Do not let the plant stay inside the car during the summer. It will overheat and get damaged, just as a pet would.
  • When it comes to winter weather conditions, it is important that your plants do not get exposed to frigid temperatures – even for just a second. Believe it or not, freezing temperatures can cause foliar damage even if the plant only experiences the severe cold for just a moment. If it is freezing outside where you are, it is best to wrap your plants in a cloth during the walk from your house to the car.

Moving with indoor plants in Pensacola can be stressful but take heart! Your plants are a lot stronger than you may think.
