However, what if we told you there was a fairly simple way to keep your poinsettias alive all year and watch them bloom again next Christmas? Here are the steps laid out for you by a professional landscaping company in Pensacola, FL:  

 

1. Poinsettias may be special, but their basic needs match those of any other plant… so first things first, never let your poinsettia dry out! Make sure you continue watering it throughout the year.  

2. When April comes around, you should begin to gradually give the poinsettia less and less water. Though necessary, this step in maintaining your poinsettia plant can be risky. The plant may or may not accept the decreased water intake. To give it the best chance, place the poinsettia in a cool place indoors that never exceeds 60 degrees and does not receive any sunlight.  

3. Sometime during the month of May, you’ll want to re-pot your poinsettia. Cut the stems down to 4 inches and then re-pot it into a larger container. Make sure you water it immediately to wake it up. Then, place the newly-potted poinsettia indoors in a spot that receives a little bit of sun exposure. 4. When summer is over and the pre-holiday season hits, you’ll want to limit the poinsettia’s sun exposure. This is important if you want the poinsettia to bloom during Christmas. If everything works properly, you will see flower buds by November!
